Employee engagement is at an all-time low, which means that most employees don’t feel particularly connected, to either their workplace or their employer. This matters because only employees who are fully engaged can be productive and produce great results.
Employers across the world have been taking note of this situation, and they’ve been trying to come up with different ways in which to make their employees feel engaged; the reality is, though, that these are but a few of the employers out there. Most employers are not only not seeking ways to make their employees more enthusiastic about their work, but they are also not even doing the basics: offering a competitive salary and a pleasant work environment.
If you are an employer who’s looking to make a difference, these are just some of the things you should look out for:
Set Clear Goals For Your Employees
Employees can’t be expected to produce results if they don’t have clear goals set out for them. Although you should promote independence and taking initiative in the workplace, you should make sure that your employees know what is expected from them. It’s only then that employees can produce great results and become motivated.
Have a Company Mission
With millennials now being the largest generation in the workforce it’s important to understand that you can’t expect your employees to work for work’s sake. They need to strive for something they believe in, and this can be defined by you, as an employer, in your company’s mission. What does your company fight for? What impact will you make on the world? And who will you affect?
Offer Opportunities For Growth
Even the best of employees can’t be expected to excel if there are no advancement opportunities. Much like the need to set goals for your employees, they also need to set their own goals and this relates to whether they will be able to climb to higher positions or not. Promote from within the ranks of your employees whenever possible and always make it clear that hard work is rewarded.
Research has shown that employees are much more effective when they have flexible work schedules. It’s something of a demand for the newer generation that their lives and their work are able to accommodate one another, so by allowing flexibility at work you are essentially making it clear to employees that you respect the fact they have lives outside work. Therefore, it’s important to provide flexible work hours, as well as occasional remote working.
Allow Employees to Be Creative
Few things count when it comes to making employees enthusiastic about their work, and this is definitely one to watch out for. These days employees want their work to be meaningful, and to create an environment where employees do meaningful work you need to provide them with opportunities to be creative and innovative. Therefore encourage independence and always hear your employees’ ideas. You’ll find that the more room you offer your employees to be creative in, the better their results will be.
In this list we have provided you with five different solutions to help make employees feel engaged. This does not mean that you should select one and forget the rest, employees require all five of these things out of their work, so in order to make sure that you are getting the best work out of your employees respect them and provide them with the things they want so long as they are sensible and logical.
